Red & Black Dragons. Cake Topper.

As the winter is starting to die down, many people are already starting to plan ahead their holidays, birthdays and weddings. It is a nice feeling! Closer the spring is coming, more revived I am starting to feel, too. It's like we are almost through the darkest night and the first rays of sunset are about to show over the horizon, making the colours of the sky brighter, lighter and warmer.

This time I would like to indulge your curiosity about the new things I made with some photographs of my newest work, the Red & Black dragons cake topper.

This cake topper took some time and practice to make, as I am not a figurine making professional. By saying this, I still did the job well, but all I wanted to say, that I do not specialise on 3D figurines like that, so it was challenging to make a carcass, wire, foil and all that.
My customer wanted to have black and red dragons as these are their wedding colours, she said.
Of course red and black would have gone greatly with gold and shimmery crystals, so I decided to make it exactly like this. In the beginning I was planning to make clay wings, but when I tried on the metallic gold plated ones, I really loved the effect. I know they are not big enough for the dragons to fly, but when making an artistic figurine like this, all that matters is that it looks good and lovely. They are here for loving and hugging anyways, not for flying. So tiny little wings add more cuteness and softness to their silhouettes.

When working on this project, I made the dragons first and then the round base. It was quite a challenge to understand how I wanted them to be positioned as the base was sticky and every time I placed the dragon on it I was scared it will stick to it. Therefor I covered the base with cling film and then I was playing with the dragons until I was satisfied with the placing. Miraculously their tails entwined together as if they were forming a top of the heart and so it was only obvious that their hands need to be joined together at the very bottom, to form the bottom of the hart, the sharp peak of it. So this came as a complete surprise for me. I felt like some miraculous powerful and loving force was guiding me.
After the main composition was established, I have placed the dragons on the base permanently and started working on the textures of their skin first. It took me a few hours to cover the whole of their bodies with the scales, but with the help of DOTIES it was so much easier. Dotties saved my life million times when it comes to dragon skin.
After that I used an extruder to make the multiple amounts of swirls that formed a wonderful armour like back decor. For the legs I used extruded and hand rolled fine and thin swirls. Was quite a challenge too. But it wouldn't be interesting otherwise, right?  My client also wanted to have some orange colours on the red part,  but I didn't feel like adding orange clay or painting some parts over. Therefore I decided to add subtle effect of "orangey-ness" :) by adding orange or fiery crystals and gold. Gold is yellow and it will automatically soften and make the red colour warmer to appear as more orangey.
As you can see I have also used the ultimate Mandarin Duck Stamp (Organic) as it is perfect for larger scales of dragon skin or pebble looking background. I can't tell you how many times I have used this stamp! This one is definitely a keeper for me, for you and for the next upcoming collection.

Anyways... The sweetest part of this journal I think are the two little hands that the dragons are lovingly holding together. It was important for me to show the tender and sweet connection between these two dragons, just like the real personalities behind these characters, they are deeply in love with each other.

You can see more photos on my Flickr Page.

Thank you very much for reading,
Love & Peace,

Creature in the Fox Mask - Necklace

This necklace appeared out of nowhere and I was actually working on some other project but midway I stopped doing what I was doing and took black clay and started to sculpt. I have created the head in quite a short time, but then when I put in on a chain I begun to wonder that it doesn't look complete.
I tried few options and ordered few different elements, but non of them really fit. I think this necklace was hanging on my necklace stash hook for about a couple of months, before this small black tassel came along with a little black Czech glass bead  in the shape of a drop.
This necklace also reminds me a little bit of a door know, the ones you have on the door to knock at.

At the moment I am also trying to break the boundaries in the ways how I want to make my jewelry pieces. I want to dedicate more time and make my pieces even more detailed, make the lines finer, swirls thinner and the whole thing more ornamented. I hope with time you will notice this in my future pieces.

Thank you so much,

Raven The Samurai Journal A5

Hello everyone!

I am very glad to show you some new artworks! It took me some time to find tome for editing these pictures, but the actual journal was made in literary hours.
The story goes.. Two month ago I received an order. It wasn't urgent but I couldn't start it for so long. Praise my customers who give me all this free time and trust me so much. Sending my blessings to yo you all for your patience with my extravagant artistic habits.
So one of these last days I was walking and walking around my work desk and couldn't start the journal. I found 1000 other tasks. I know I have them anyway, but I couldn't prioritise things the way they were supposed to. So that day I cleaned the whole room so that my room and my mind are less polluted with distractions. When that was done I sat down on my chair, went on Pinterest, looked for some studio inspirations, found a wall colour I liked. Went to local DIY store and purchased some paint. Came home, moved all furniture in the middle, painted the wall... at 10 PM in the evening everything was done and ONLY THEN I sat down to my desk in the middle of all this wreckage and created this journal in literary hours. I think I went to sleep at about 01:30AM that day. When I woke up I only needed to bake and paint it. So another hour and it was done. My customer was very happy with the result and she loved the story of my struggles. She said it was completely worth the wait and adventure.

Because this raven has metallic embellishments that look like some sort of Japanese armour, I called him Raven the Samurai. My client was very pleased with the name too and said she couldn't find a better name for it. FUN!
So here are the pictures. Enjoy and let me know if you liked the story. Sorry I don't have progress pictures as this one came out so fast, I couldn't manage taking photos.

The Cuff of Purifying Energy by Mandarin Duck

Hello everyone!

I am quite excited to present you one of my new jewellery collection pieces - "The Cuff of Purifying Energy".

I decided to name this bracelet : "The Cuff of Purifying Energy" because it reminds me of a magical artefact piece and it was inspired by my love for labradorite crystals, starry dark sky with northern lights and beautiful, slightly golden moonlight. Labradorite stones are believed to have a power of protection and their magnificent transforming colourful ever transforming sparkle can easily make this crystal to be one of the most beautiful on the planet.

This bracelet is a part of "Ancient Stories" jewelry collection by Mandarin Duck aka Aniko Kolesnikova which I started two years ago and I still keep adding to the line from time to time. This collection is inspired by heavy medieval metals, little golden sparks of fire and beautiful semiprecious stones (for this bracelet it's labradorite). Pieces in this collection have rather different styles but they all are unified by black and gold/silver tones, different material imitations and shiny magical speckles.
This bracelet opens in the middle allowing a comfortable fit and it's oval shape makes it wrap around your wrist better, without leaving empty spaces and avoiding excess dangling on your hand. Hunting for such jewellery supply is always an adventure itself and when you find one, you feel very inspired straight away.
Very unique item, one of a kind (OOAK).

At the moment it is available in my ETSY SHOP.

Here are some more pictures and I am sorry that this type there will be no pictures of progress as for some reason I was so drawn into making this bracelet that I forgot to take couple of shots!
